| Lily
set to expand her empire |
 |
Lily
Allen is expanding her business empire following the
creation of her fashion label with New Look where she
is in talks to do a second collection.
Lily isn’t stopping there - she's in talks for a new TV show
and has signed a lucrative deal as the face of Braun Satin Hair.
She’s also reportedly looking to expand her brand with her
very own record label. The ‘Smile’ singer, is said
to hope that the label will launch homegrown talent from around
the world. She was one of the first people to help launch Kate
Nash into the mainstream.
All these innovations come following the 22-year-old’s recent
ditching of her management company after she failed to break into
the US or pick up any major awards this year.

British albums success in USA
|
 |
UK
artists managed to sell one in every 12 titles bought in the
United States, despite a decline in the US market that has
seen overall album sales fall by 12% between 2004 and 2006.
Chart
success for singers such as Natasha Bedingfield along with
demand for music veterans like Pink Floyd's David Gilmour helped
British music increase its share of the US albums market in
2006.
Thanks
to good US sales for such artists as James Blunt, KT Tunstall,
Snow Patrol and Corinne Bailey Rae, UK performers made up 8.2%
of sales in the world's leading music market last year.

| Band
to give album away online |
 |
Established
indie band, The Crimea, is giving away its new album
for free on the internet as a way of creating a fan base
that could make it easier to make money in the future.
‘Secrets of the witching hour’ is downloadable FREE at www.thecrimea.net
.
It is believed The Crimea are one the first established pop acts
to offer a whole album for free, the latest example of how the
internet is changing the way music is distributed.
|
The
group is hoping that because the album is free it will
open the band to a wider audience and make more money from
live income.
Some of the group’s members have experienced rejection by record
labels, most recently when Warner Music Group in America dropped
them last year as they were not selling enough records in the US.
The Crimea claim that the move to give away their album did not mean
they were giving up totally on the established music industry. |

| Internet
concert star enters charts |
 |
After
broadcasting concerts from her London basement
on the internet, Sandi Thom has
landed a million-pound deal with label giants
RCA/SonyBMG. Her debut single, ‘I Wish
I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)’,
has entered the national singles chart.
Her sudden rise to fame has led to internet
accusations that the webcast sessions were
orchestrated by her PR firm Quite Great.
It was also claimed that the broadcast figures
had been exaggerated with the concerts reportedly
watched by more than 100,000 people.
A Quite Great spokesman disputed the claims.

First ‘mobile only’ single
|
 |
Yesterday,
mobile phone company ‘3’ announced that it is about
to release the first mobile only pop single.
‘ 3’ will release ‘Stop Me’, the debut track from the
Italian electronic pop band Planet Funk, to 3.5 million customers on its mobile
phone network.
The move follows a change in the way that the charts are compiled. Until
this month, download sales could only count towards a chart position
if the song was also available in the shops.
However, from the start of April, the rules were relaxed. ‘Crazy’,
by Gnarls Barkley, made pop history by becoming the first number one
song to be based on download sales alone.
|
While
most fans bought the track using their home computer, around
a fifth downloaded it on to a mobile phone.
According to the Official Charts Company, which compiles the UK Top 40, ‘3's
audio sales accounted for nearly four per cent of the singles sold this
year. The full version of Naples-base Planet Funk’s song can be downloaded
to a mobile phone and PC for 99p. The video of the song will also be available. |
|
| Franz
Freebie |
Franz
Ferdinand are going to treat members of their fan club
by giving them a free track.
 |
It’s believed that
the song will be ‘Swallow Smile’ which
was recorded when the group was on tour in Australia
last year. |
The
free track is a thank you to members of their fan
club, as the group prepare to release ‘The Fallen’,
their official new single.
The new track, released on April 3, has three videos
accompanying it not one.

| Fatboy
Slim plans monster gig at Loch Ness |
 |
Fatboy
Slim, otherwise known as DJ Norman Cook, is to
headline a summer concert on the banks of Loch
Ness.
To be staged on 24 June for an estimated 20,000
fans, the site will be outside the village of
Dores near Inverness. It will be the first time
Loch Ness, famous for its legendary monster,
has hosted such an event. |
He has previously staged huge shows on the beach
of his home city Brighton and Rio de Janeiro.
According to the star DJ, the one-off concert will
also feature Mylo, Slam and Carl Cox and is being
staged to make up for the lack of a Glastonbury
festival this year.
The event will coincide with the release of Fatboy
Slim’s greatest hits album, likely to feature
anthems such as ‘The Rockafeller Skank’ and ‘Praise
You’.

| Sandi
entertains the world - from her home! |
 |
Following
the success of the Arctic Monkeys, who built up their fan
base on the internet, Sandi Thom is using the web to entertain
nightly audiences of more than 60,000.
Sandi, a 24-year-old Scot, uses a webcam to record a nightly performance
before broadcasting it on the net. In an eight-day period it is estimated
she entertained more than 250,000 fans worldwide. Her live audiences
usually total about 200 when she plays in clubs around Britain.
According to Sandi, who has been compared to KT Tunstall and Janis
Joplin, she began the web concerts because of the high cost of hiring
minibuses and hotel rooms for normal tours. |
Streaming
Tank, the web broadcast company, monitored access to
one on-line concert in February and reported it had an
audience of 62,138 with 42% of the audience being in
Britain and 23% in America.
Sandi’s debut album is to be released in April 2006, although
her first single, ‘I wish I was a punk rocker’, didn’t
make the Top 40.

make the tour the most successful of all-time. The Stones have
broken their 1994 record of £70 million
