Corinne tops Sound of 2006 survey
British soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae has been named the best rising star in the BBC News website's Sound of 2006 survey of UK critics and broadcasters.

Corinne is 26 and from Leeds. She has been championed by BBC Radio 1 and Jools Holland and has been compared in the press to blues legend Billie Holiday.

A feature on Corinne can be found in our Showcase section under ‘Running Media artists on track’. US group Clap Your Hands Say Yeah came second and rock band The Feeling were third.

Last year's list included The Bravery, the Kaiser Chiefs and KT Tunstall. Keane, Franz Ferdinand, the Scissor Sisters and 50 Cent all appeared in previous years’ lists before making it big.

The Sound of 2006 survey was compiled from the tips of more than 100 impartial music critics and broadcasters, who were asked to give the names of their favourite three new artists. The acts with the most tips were then ranked to compile the Sound of 2006 list.

The top ten in the Sound of 2006 survey is:
1. Corinne Bailey Rae
2. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
3. The Feeling
4. Plan B
5. Guillemots
6. Sway
7. Chris Brown
8. Marcos Hernandez
9. Kubb
10. The Automatic
