Charts could be transformed by USB sticks
The singles chart could be set to undergo another revolution with Glasgow band, The Fratellis, having released their new single ‘Baby Fratelli’ on a USB memory stick.

The stick fits into a computer USB port and contains not just the track but also the accompanying video. If they prove a success with music fans, USB sticks could in future be eligible for the charts.

It will be another nail in the coffin for the CD, and could also lead the way for albums to be released on the same format.

At the beginning of the 2007, chart rules were changed to make downloads eligible for the top 40.
The USB stick was piloted last October with Keane’s single ‘Nothing's In My Way’, which sold out within a day.

Around 7,000 Fratellis sticks are on sale exclusively at HMV stores and online at www. hmv.co.uk. They are a limited edition item with the single also available on CD, limited edition shaped vinyl and DVD.
