The
new star of the Isle of Man-based Running Media Group of companies
is Corinne Bailey Rae.
Corinne

with Jools Holland’ and the release of her first EP ‘Like
a Star’, which was record of the week on BBC Radio 1. She
has also undertaken a sell out debut tour.
The
Running Media Group also manages artists such as Christine
Collister, Truman Falls, Christy
de Haven, Anna Goldsmith, Jacoba
and Back Door Slam.
Corinne
Bailey Rae
Corinne
Bailey Rae sounds like Billie Holliday but is not from Mississippi
or Manhattan. She was born and raised in Leeds, the oldest of three
daughters to a West Indian father and a Yorkshire mother. At school
she studied the classical violin but became interested in singing
and playing the guitar in her local Baptist church.
She
developed a healthy interest in rock and roll particularly the
music of Led Zeppelin. When she was 15 years old Corinne formed
an indie band called ‘Helen’ that was offered a recording
deal and promptly broke up when the bassist became pregnant!
She
went to Leeds University to study English Literature and worked
at night in a local jazz club. Gradually her musical tastes moved
from indie to soul and songwriting was added to her impressive
singing and guitar playing skills.
Corinne
was signed by EMI Records in 2004 and her first LP is to be released
in early 2006. She travelled regularly by train from Leeds station
to London King’s Cross to work in studios whilst writing
and recording her album.

Christine Collister grew up on the Isle of Man.
Her professional recording career began in the mid 1980’s but she first came to national
attention singing the 1987 theme for the BBC Television series ‘The
Life and Loves Of A She Devil’.
Following a fruitful association with The Richard Thompson Band,

| Back Door Slam |
|
Formed whilst still all at school in August 2003, the band have gone
from strength to strength in a very short period.
Davy Knowles, singer and guitarist extraordinaire, fronts Back Door
Slam. Having taught himself the guitar parts of Dire Straits’
Sultans of Swing at the age of 11 and cut his playing teeth with Out
of the Blue, Roadhouse and more recently Creamy Heads (who he still
plays periodically with). Dave is now cutting his own musical path
with Back Door Slam.
Jamie Armstrong plays Bass and is already a Blues Fest veteran, having
appeared on the acoustic stage at the age of 13 as one half of the
duo Me and Him with his father, Mark. They have played the Festival
several times since.
Ross Doyle completes the line-up of the band on drums.
Blues fans will realise the band’s name has been borrowed from
a classic Robert Cray song and they are also heavily influenced by
many other Blues greats including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Johnson,
Buddy Guy and Howlin’ Wolf as well as Rory Gallagher, Bert Jansch,
and Mark Knopfler - but they have wide tastes and listen to a lot of
rock, folk, jazz and traditional Celtic music, too.

| Anna Goldsmith |
|
Anna Goldsmith has shifted from a background of entertaining Royalty
with opera style precision, to using all of that talent to bring
her own, very contemporary songs to an eager audience.
Touching on influences ranging from Sarah McLachlan to Missy Higgins,
and making excellent use of her hard-earned keyboard skills, she blends
a stunning vocal range and control with a warmth that grabs the coldest
heart.
Her talent was
recently rewarded by her gaining the support slot for the sold out
Katie Melua gig. The same talent is now being captured on disc -
Anna's debut CD, 'The Horoscope' EP, is now available on Stereoscout
Records and her debut album is in the pipeline.
Her own official site will be up and running soon too, but in the
meantime, for more information check out her mini-site at http://www.stereoscout.com/anna/index.htm

| Truman Falls |
|
| The band centres around the soundscapes created by Simon Rea, an
extremely gifted singer-songwriter hailing from the Isle of Man.
The
debut album ‘Little Happyhells’ combines the timelessness
of well crafted songs polished off with a contemporary alternative
edge. Simon's writing style is indisputably original and yet at
the same time pays subtle homage to some of the greatest songwriters
of the last thirty years, from Bacharach to the Beach Boys.
Although the essence of Truman Falls lies with Simon Rea, it is
the collaboration with Paul Teare, producer Dave Armstrong and others
- like local guitarist Steph Joyce - that completes the record's
sound. Combine all of these ingredients with the final layer - a
distinctive soulful, passionate vocal from Simon Rea - and you've
reached Truman Falls.

| Jacoba |

Jacoba come from the Isle of Man and the band members
are: Geoff Murphy (lead singer/songwriter & guitar), Lee Meier
(guitar/vocals), Scott Beecroft (bass), Johnny Peacock (drums) and
new keyboard player
Brian Brough.
Their live performance is big and bold, their lyrics are intelligent
and their sound is completely distinctive. All these factors secured
them support slots with a lot of top bands – most recently,
Hell Is For Heroes.
They won the regional final of the ‘Global Battle of the Bands
Competition’ last October. At the World Final at the London Astoria
last November, they kicked off with storming crowdpleaser ‘Liquid’.
They also created the first mosh pit of the night and instantly added
an army of new fans.
